The Centre offers a Direct Ph. D. programme and also an M.Phil/Ph.D programme.
(1) Direct admission to Ph.D. programme: Given it inter-disciplinary orientation, the centre welcomes applications from scholars with M.Phil, Degree in Political Science, Economics, sociology and Law. Those who do not have an M.Phil degree should provide evidence of equivalent published work in the intended area of specialization.
(2) Phil. /Ph.D. Programme in law and governance: The objectives of the M.Phil./Ph.D. programme in Law and governance include the following:
(i) To prepare candidates for doctoral research in public policy and socio-legal research that is not limited by uni-disciplinary training.
(ii) To provide an inter-disciplinary perspective on the study of law and governance, by introducing the basic concepts, debates and the now extensive literature on governance and legal issues, emanating from the disciplines of political science, economics, public administration/public policy, sociology and jurisprudence.
(iii) To equip students with the skills necessary to undertake research in area of public policy including a special focus on the legal implications of these issues,, by developing their expertise in these diverse disciplinary areas, and so to enable a more complex and multifaceted approach to issues of governance, public policy and law.
(iv) To acquaint the qualified practitioners-policy-maker, civil servant, Lawyer or NGO worker-with the major issues in this area.
Duration: The M.Phil. Programme is a two-year/four semester programme of study from which students may move on to the doctoral programme provided they meet the minimum grade requirements laid down by the University. It consists of 3 compulsory courses; 3 optional courses; and a dissertation. The notable feature of the M.Phil programme are:

Eligibility for admission
(1) Direct admission to Ph.D.: only those programme who have (s)either obtained M.Phil . Degree of recognized University/Research Institutions with minimum Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of6.00in 10 point scale/comparable started where the grading is based on system other than the 10 point scale. The candidates who have obtained M.Phil degree from a University/Institution where the. M.Phil. dissertation is not grading is not based on 10 point scale ,are required to forward a copy of their M.Phil .dissertation along with the application Dorm for the purpose of assessment of their credentials;

research experience in recognized University/Research Institutions and/ or Research Publications(s) comparable to M.Phil .standard
In addition to (as and (b) above, candidates with relevant administrative/ legal experience are also eligible.
(ii) M.Phil/Ph.D.: Mater’s degree with 50% marks in Political Science Public Administration, Economics, sociology, History, Philosophy or an equivalent degree in Law; or 60% in any natural science discipline. There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC/ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates, as per rules. Deprivation point for other backward classes (OBCs) and other candidates are given as per rules
Written test:
A Written test  with essay questions from the fields of Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Economics, and Law is held. The test evaluates the candidates’ analytical and competence in her/his discipline.
The areas covered by the test relate to issues such as the following: the changing role of the state: the relationship between the state, market and civil society; civil service reform and the new public management; regulatory regimes; local governance, both rural and urban; the rule of law and access to justice, the social and economics bases of law; and global governance.
